Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Automation)

Job Description

• 1. Equipment Development: Participate in the development of automation equipment, assembly machines, tooling, and inspection systems for connector manufacturing.
• 2. Machine Design: Design reliable and cost-effective automation machines, ensuring functionality, manufacturability, maintainability, safety, and compliance with production requirements.
• 3. High-Speed Equipment: Develop high-speed terminal stitching and insertion equipment, including terminal feeding, carrier-strip handling, cutting, positioning, insertion-depth control, and in-process detection.
• 4. Mechanical Design Activities: Perform detailed mechanical design work, including machine concept development, 3D modeling, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, mechanism calculations, component selection, and design risk assessment.
• 5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Design, Process Engineering, Electrical Controls, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to define equipment specifications and technical DFM (Design for Manufacturing) requirements.
• 6. Project Leadership: Lead machine-development projects from concept, fabrication, and assembly through debugging, qualification, and production handover, ensuring cycle time, yield, capability, reliability, cost, and timeline targets are achieved.

Qualifications

• 1. Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 2. Experience: Minimum 8 years of mechanical design or automation machine-development experience, with a strong understanding of machine-design principles.
• 3. Preferred Expertise: Experience in designing high-speed terminal stitching, gang insertion, or connector assembly equipment is strongly preferred.
• 4. Industry Background: Experience in the connector, electronics, semiconductor, or other high-precision manufacturing industry is desirable. Senior/Staff positions require strong technical leadership and complete machine-development life-cycle experience.
• 5. Technical Skills: Proficient in mechanical design, machine mechanisms, material selection, tolerance analysis, and engineering calculations.
• 6. Software: Proficient with 3D CAD tools such as CREO Direct or SolidWorks. Experience with motion simulation or other CAE tools is an advantage.
• 7. Component Knowledge: Familiar with servo motors, pneumatic systems, linear-motion systems, indexing and cam mechanisms, feeders, sensors, machine vision, and robotic handling.
• 8. Process Knowledge: Knowledge of connector manufacturing processes, including terminal stitching, insertion, assembly, laser welding, inspection, testing, stamping, and insert molding, is preferred.
• 9. Soft Skills: Strong analytical, troubleshooting, project-management, and cross-functional communication skills.

• - Variable Bonus: Up to 3 months’ salary (subject to performance)
• - Housing Allowance: RM 1,000 / month
• - Transport Allowance: RM 100 ? RM 230 / month (depending on distance between accommodation and plant)
• - Meal Allowance: RM 2 / day
